We are learning about Genetically Modified Foods!
We are starting a new cross-curriculum unit on genetically modified foods. Students will read multiple sources on the pros and cons of these foods and develop an opinion essay on whether GMs should be banned or allowed in our grocery stores.
Students can access these sources at anytime on our Google Classroom using their district email.
Also, I asked students to be on the lookout of the non-gmo label used on foods.

Tests and Quizzes
Quizzes and Tests
Hello All,
To keep everyone updated, I want to inform you about weekly multiple-choice quizzes. Students will be having weekly vocabulary quizzes in either ELA/Language or Math. Math vocabulary words can be found in the front of their math journals and ELA words are found in their notes ( all notes should be filed in their binders under ELA and Language Arts.) I will choose 5 words each week. Words can be newer words or older words (from previous weeks). Most of the time quizzes and tests are completed on iPads. Students will be informed of their scores but a print-out will not be made.
Words they may encounter are:
Main idea - standard form
Problem and solution - rounding
Introduction - estimate
Everynight students should be reading over math and ELA notes as a standard practice.
This week, students will be assessed on ELA/writing words and next week will be math.

Classroom Expectations
At Anton we follow 3 basic rules:
1. Be safe2. Be responsible
3. Be respectful
We are a PBiS School! PBIS is an approach that our school uses to improve school safety and promote positive behavior. It's also a tool we use to respond to a child who misbehaves.
The Principles of PBiS are:
- Every child can learn proper behavior.
- Stepping in early can prevent more serious behavior.
- How schools teach behavior should be bases on research and science.
- Following a child's behavioral progress is important.
- Schools must gather and use data to make decisions about behavioral problems.
In the Classroom
We will follow the same 3 basic rules:
1. Be safe
2. Be respectful
3. Be responsible
In the classroom, students can earn classroom money for positive behaviors. At the end of each month students will have opportunities to purchase items from the classroom store.
School Expectations
Here at Anton, we are a PBIS school. Which means students are rewarded for positive behaviors. Students can earn digital HERO points from teachers and staff if they are following the below rules:
1. Be Safe
2. Be Responsible
3. Be Respectful
Students can "spend" there HERO points on school-activities through-out the year.
